“We had a resolution tonight that gave an additional $ 210,000 for additional project work at the Aiken County Animal Shelter,” said Chairman of the Board Gary Bunker. “The first project is the adoption center. It was very appealing as the Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS) raised over $ 240,000 for the project and Aiken County is contributing $ 160,000.
The remaining $ 50,000 will go towards the construction of the storage facility. Bunker says construction is expected to be underway in the coming months.
Officials say the money will help offset rising construction costs caused by supply shortages during the pandemic.
During the meeting, FOTAS was also honored for having recently won Best of Aiken awards in three categories: best non-profit, best animal rescue and best pet event for its ‘Woofstock’ festival, who returns this October 9 after a year off due to COVID.
Officials at the shelter recently reported that the facility is operating at full capacity, with an urgent need for adoptions and foster families. For more information, contact Friends Of The Animal Shelter by clicking here.
