Barnegat Pet Rescue Prepares To Deliver Items To Ida Victims

BARNEGAT, NJ – Representatives of a Barnegat foster care pet rescue plan to depart for Louisiana later this week to deliver items that have been collected from local residents to help victims of the hurricane Ida.

The trip, which is slated for Friday, is the first of two deliveries East Coast Paws N ‘Claws Rescue plans to make. The second, the shelter director said, will take place in October as organizers hope to help those affected by the devastating storm.

East Coast Paws N ‘Claws director Lynn Reckeweg is coordinating the project with Stephen Suarez. Reckeweg recently told Patch that the decision to help the victims of Hurricane Ida was one that spoke to the rescue’s mission to help those in need. The rescue is providing temporary care for homeless and abandoned animals in the Ocean County area until they can find a forever home.

“It seemed like the most natural thing to do,” Reckeweg said in an email to Patch. “Our adopters, foster families, volunteers, family and friends are all part of our relief community, even if they are 1,000 kilometers away. We are simply living our mission – to help anyone in need, that they are animal or human, four or two legged, whatever is needed.

She added, “We have such confidence in our great community and our family, our rescue and our staff that we knew (the collection of items) would not fail.”

Organizers of the collection effort plan to continue adding items from various collection points as the hurricane season continues for several months, Reckeweg said, and the needs of Louisiana residents will continue to grow.
