Gretchen Weant Hollingsworth passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Palo Alto, California on October 12, 2021 at the age of 72.
Gretchen (Gretchen Jane Weant) was born in 1949 in Alta Bates in Oakland, coincidentally where her 34-year-old husband Jim was also born. A graduate of San José State University, Gretchen worked for 40 years at Stanford Hospital, finally in spiritual care as Father John Hester’s assistant. Gretchen was active in the Palo Alto community and enjoyed the early morning ‘boot camp’ drills on the Stanford campus, upholstery classes at Palo Alto High School, and preparing tennis tournament lunches. local. She loved walking the trails in Wunderlich Park to Alice’s Restaurant in SkyLonda. In Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gretchen liked to hike “the loop” through Forest Trail to the Mission, then along Scenic Drive and up Ocean Avenue. Travel to Europe often included long walks through Copenhagen and Lausanne.
Gretchen enjoyed the challenges and companionship of the two dogs (“big black rescue dogs”) in her life, Willy and most recently, the Sox. Sox was a longtime close member of the family.
Gretchen is survived by husband James of Palo Alto and son Wesley of Carmel, as well as extended family in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
