Frankfurt am Main, July 20, 2021 – The KION Group supports aid workers in their tireless efforts to cope with the heavy damage caused by the storms in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria. The intralogistics company donates one million euros in emergency aid to the German Red Cross. The national relief organization has actively assisted in the rescue, care and accommodation of people in need in the regions.
“The images of flooding and destruction are shocking, and people in these areas have been hit hard. Many have lost everything they own, and some also mourn the deaths of friends and relatives. Our thoughts and condolences go out to all concerned, ”said Gordon Riske, CEO of KION GROUP AG. “We would like to thank the professional aid workers and volunteers on the ground who are giving everything to mitigate the impact of this tragic natural disaster.”
The German Red Cross is a recognized umbrella organization of the non-governmental welfare sector, providing facilities, programs and services through volunteers and full-time workers. In Germany, the organization is also involved in civil protection and disaster response. In the event of a disaster, the German Red Cross undertakes to use all available aid and all available resources to rescue people and help them in case of need. Currently, more than 3,500 German Red Cross assistants are working around the clock in the areas affected by the floods.
The financial support that the KION Group provides to the German Red Cross is distributed to the respective regional and local organizations through the national headquarters in Berlin. This ensures that emergency aid is sent where it is most urgently needed.
In addition to emergency financial assistance, the Frankfurt-based intralogistics company is also providing equipment and personnel. “We offer paid leave to all employees who volunteer with an aid organization, such as the Federal Technical Rescue Agency, the German Rescue Association and the German Red Cross, and provide active support on the land to those in need in flood-affected areas, ”says Anke Groth, Director of Labor Relations and Chief Financial Officer of KION GROUP AG. “We have also agreed to grant the German Red Cross free access to our forklifts to help manage logistical challenges. The equipment will help ensure that people in affected areas have access to what they need.
“We are extremely grateful to the KION Group for their support and this generous donation,” says Christian Reuter, General Secretary and Managing Director of the German Red Cross. “Many people in the disaster affected areas are desperate because they have lost almost everything, so it is important that we can provide assistance quickly. ”
