Nearly 15 dogs were abandoned on property in Emporia
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The fifteen dogs who were abandoned by their owners after leaving their property in Emporia, are now reunited at the Emporia Animal Shelter. The address where the dogs lived was not given to 13 NEWS.
The dogs entered the shelter with a variety of conditions. The dogs’ ages ranged from one to thirteen, said Stephanie Achille, director of the Humane Society of the Flint Hills.
“None of them have been checked before, some have really long fingernails, some have skin issues that we face, a few we just limp a little and a lot of strangers, we just don’t know. not because they’ve never been to the vet, so spaying and neutering is definitely something we’re interested in and just rehabilitation, ”she said.
The shelter reached its maximum capacity before the emergency reception.
“We try to be as accommodating as possible but we’ve been at our maximum for a very long time,” he added.
The shelter tries to make room for all animals if possible, rescued dogs stay outside until all of their conditions are known, Emporia Animal Shelter also does not want to infect other animals or its volunteers “on two legs”.
Achilles wants to remind pet owners to love and take good care of their pets.
“Like we said there are about 15 and these are Shepard mixes, we’re not talking burrows here for a smaller house with maybe not a yard or fenced yard, it’s hard to think. inside one or two bedroom house so think ahead of your adoption or purchase of an animal and give it the love and care you would have for your children ”, she declared.
Adoption of these dogs is currently on hold as it is a legal process and the shelter is waiting to hear all of the dogs’ conditions. Achilles says the shelter would appreciate any donation, especially dry dog food. If you are interested in donating, you can drop off your supplies directly at the shelter.
