Piedmont Housing Alliance to Open Financial Opportunities Center
In collaboration with a wide range of essential partners, Piedmont Housing Alliance is delighted to announce the grand opening of the first Financial Opportunities Center (FOC) + Housing Hub in the Charlottesville area. The grand opening will take place on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 806 East High Street (the former United Way building) in downtown Charlottesville. The event will commemorate the inauguration with an opening ceremony.
Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a national community development organization, has helped establish more than 100 Financial Opportunity Centers across the country. The FOC framework established by LISC will serve as a central entry point for Charlottesville residents to access a holistic range of resources under four main pillars – employment assistance, financial counseling / coaching, income support and navigation to housing. . The overall goal is to dramatically improve ease of access to financial resources and stability of housing for low-income residents of our region, and to foster better coordination of the system and resources from a racial justice perspective.
“This collaborative effort is long in coming. For years, many of us have heard a call for more coordinated services to more effectively support our most financially vulnerable neighbors. I hope this is just the start of a more collaborative and holistic approach to improving financial and housing opportunities for local residents, ”said Sunshine Mathon, Executive Director of Piedmont Housing Alliance
In partnership with Piedmont Housing Alliance in the Charlottesville FOC + Housing Hub are Network2Work at Piedmont Virginia Community College, United Way of Greater Charlottesville, Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Monticello Area Community Action Agency, International Rescue Committee, Legal Aid Justice Center and many other community organizations.
