New London – The city is hosting a virtual lead-free open house in New London from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to introduce the public to an initiative to identify and replace lead service lines.

Water supplied by the City of New London is lead-free when it leaves the treatment plant, but its quality may change as water flows through water supply lines and plumbing and household plumbing fixtures that may contain lead.

“The City of New London takes the issue of lead in drinking water very seriously and to ensure the continued protection of our community, the city is proactively advancing an education, inventory and line replacement program. service lead with the use of public funds to reduce the cost burden on private owners, ”the city said in the announcement.

The city has created an initial lead service line inventory and the Lead Service Line Replacement Program is being implemented to improve the inventory and eliminate all lead service lines over a 5 year period.
